XML

XML is used for storing and transferring data in a standardized format. XML data is often a preferred choice for native storage format within an application, since a standardized internal data format ensures easy interfacing for other application

Our experience of XML

• We have implemented desktop applications, which have XML as their internal storage format.
• We have also equipped applications with XML-based external interfaces for communication with other software applications.
• We have transformed XML documents with XSLT into separate HTML-documents.
• For internal use, we have implemented an hour tracking system that can be used with a web browser. The system is implemented with PHP and PostgreSQL and also makes good use of XML and XSL.

Knowledge of languages and tools

• The structural definitions of XML: DTD and Schema
• The XML query languages XQuery and XPath
• The transformation of XML for example to HTML, and of course, the various XML parsers and their programming interfaces.
